There are many opportunities to get involved in the life of the church. Joining a group or volunteering at an event is the best way to make new friends and feel part of the family.
Everybody is welcome, so let us know your interests and we'll find something for you! Have a browse below to see some of the many ways in which you can join in.
Small Groups
... are exactly that! They are small-ish (6–12) groups of people from the church or the wider local community who want to know more about Christianity. They meet in church members' homes weekly to share refreshments, pray, discuss the Bible and develop great friendships.
If you are interested to find out more, we can put you in touch with the small group leader who will be more than happy to speak with you and invite you along to their group!
Mothers' Union
We meet monthly on the 2nd Wednesday mornings at 10.00am in the Church Rooms.
Cranleigh Branch of the Mothers’ Union (MU) is part of the wider, global movement that embodies all that makes for family life in all its forms, and supports individuals and families in many ways. The MU’s foundations are in the Church and the community and as such is able to give a voice to the stigmatized and vulnerable around the world.
In Cranleigh, there has been a branch of MU for over 100 years and our membership currently numbers about 80 from Cranleigh and surrounding villages.
We meet on the second Wednesday of each month, usually with a guest speaker covering a wide range of interesting subjects. As well as our monthly meetings we have a Communion service on the fourth Friday, followed by coffee and time to chat.
Our branch has a knitting & sewing group that meets on a Monday morning and to which anyone is welcome. We enjoy craft afternoons (always with tea and cake!) and interactive meetings such as handbell ringing. Church Choir
Led by our Director of Music, Michael Clarke, our Choir sings at one service each Sunday: morning Parish Communion services on the 2nd, 4th and 5th (if there is one) Sunday of the month, and evening Choral Communion on the 1st Sunday of the month and Choral Evensong on the 3rd Sunday of the month.
They rehearse on Thursdays from 7:30pm to 8:30pm and always keen to hear from singers who would like to join! Contact the Parish Office for more information.
Praise Band
Our Praise Band is also led by our Director of Music, and is responsible for the music at the services on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month. They rehearse on the morning of the service, and would be delighted to hear from you about your musical talents. If you play a musical instrument or sing and would like to be involved, contact the Parish Office and tell us about yourself!
Rectory Fete
Join us annually in July for our Rectory Fete for games, stalls, BBQ, Beer and Pimm's tent, and much, much more!
You can expect performances from local groups such as Cranleigh Community Choir and Fleur de Lys Morris Dancers.
If you would like to volunteer to run a stall, or join the team in planning the fete then we would love to hear from you!
Eco Church
We are delighted to have recently been awared the Eco Church bronze award from A Rocha UK.

1170
Named for the year our church was built, 1170 is an independent charity formed in 2018 to help maintain and protect the Church building for future generations. 1170 is governed by a formal constitution registered with the UK’s Charity Commission and managed by a small number of local trustees both from within the church and from the wider village community.
The charity’s formation is a result of a vision that the heritage embedded in St Nicolas’ Church building is not the exclusive preserve of the Church community but rather an asset that is used and enjoyed by the whole village, schools, history groups, tourists in the UK and overseas as well as people making journeys of pilgrimage exploring their Family roots.
